WCG specialise in urban reforestation and biofiltration wetlands for sewage and stormwater treatment. Councils increasingly recognise that these initiatives provide valuable services for local communities and their long-term sustainability.
WCG solutions uses bio-mimicry to capture and clean polluted water, improve local air-quality, mitigate high temperatures and help create environments that are enjoyable for people and biodiversity.
Properly designed, these solutions have much lower life-cycle costs than hard-engineering solutions and, in addition, provide substantial sustainability benefits with lower consumption of non-renewable resources and energy and the creation of high quality habitat.
Project Examples:
WCG is currently working with Brisbane City Council to design, establish and maintain urban forests throughout Brisbane that will counter the urban heat-island effect, improve local water quality, mitigate humidity impacts, provide habitat for biodiversity and enhance the amenity of the urban environment. <link>
WCG is working with developers to design an urban landscape that capture, treat, store and harvest stormwater using advanced wetland systems to provide local communities access to a more sustainable source of water and protect local waterways from stormwater pollution.
The system is designed to result in very low ongoing maintenance costs which are typically inherited by Council. <link>
An advanced constructed wetland designed by WCG staff to treat wastewater produces high quality water and has saved Council millions in deferred infrastructure upgrade costs.
WCG Pre-Qualification to work with local council
Queensland: Local Buy (http://www.localbuy.net.au/) has registered WCG on the Pre-Qualified Suppliers (RPQS) for Environmental, Water and Waste Management Consultancy Services. When a Local Government seeks to obtain Environmental, Water and Waste Management Consultancy Services, they can undertake a tender or request for quotation activity, or alternatively they can engage The Water and Carbon Group as a prequalified supplier to Local Buy thereby saving the costs of open tendering.
NSW: Local Government Procurement (www.lgp.org.au) has registered WCG as a preferred supplier to NSW local governments for the provision of Engineering, Planning and Development and Community Professional Consulting Services (panel contract).
In addition, WCG has pre-qualified to supply consultancy services for the Cairns Regional Council and Sunshine Coast Regional Council Panel of Providers.
