WCG have large scale projects under development to provide customers carbon credits from forest ecosystems (pending CFI policy requirements) that:
We provide carbon-sink reforestation services for:
WCG, through its wholly owned subsidiary is certified under the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme.
WCG intends to seek certification for new projects under the proposed Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI).
WCG offer a long-term fixed price per tonne and can assign, share or carry 100% of the yield risk.
WCG’s carbon pool is being strategically developed across diverse climatic regions and rarely in marginal country. Whilst land in marginal country is cheap it may be high risk. A 20% fall in average rainfall in marginal country can have a bigger impact upon the viability of a forest system than an equivalent fall in a high rainfall region.
WCG plant multiple species within its forests. Each species has a variable tolerance to climatic extremes, pests and diseases. Carbon-sink forests must survive for over 130 years, far longer than an ordinary plantation system. The use of a mixture extends the tolerance of the whole forest system over long-term horizons.
WCG projects are focused on multiple outcomes such as biodiversity, community engagement and water quality. The multiple benefits of a forest system enhance the long-term acceptance of the forest by the local community thus helping to ensure its permanence. They also create future ecosystem service revenue opportunities.
