Validating modelled sequestration rates on the Sunshine Coast
Understanding the growth potential of well designed and managed forest systems is essential for enhancing investor confidence in the productivity of biodiverse forest ecosystems. This data also informs establishment and management decisions to optimise returns to investors.
WCG has extensive experience in collecting data from mixed species forests and have developed proprietary models to estimate long-term yields.
Engaged by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, WCG developed a dataset which compared actual measured stored carbon with WCG models and the government forest carbon accounting model, NCAT.
The report found that stored carbon in well designed and managed forests significantly exceeded NCAT estimates.
